Hagia Sophia, one of the iconic temples of Istanbul, A.C. It is a basilica planned cathedral built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian between 532-537. Due to the magnificence of its interior decoration, the size and height of its dome, it is the most magnificent of Istanbul's urban civilization works. The word “Sofia” comes from the ancient Greek word sophos meaning “wisdom”, the name “Hagia Sophia” means “holy/divine wisdom”.
The motifs on the half dome next to the main dome of Hagia Sophia and the medallion in the outer narthex* are stylized and used on the Hagia Sophia Gondola in the Istanbul Collection.
Hagia Sophia Gondola is produced from handmade glass, and all the relief patterns on it are decorated by hand using gold gilding.
